Richard Emms, a 40-year-old Ontario native, has been residing in Nova Scotia for a period exceeding 15 years. For over 10 years, he has served as the captain of the Highland Dancer. He is a graduate of Georgian College in Ontario, where he obtained a Red Seal Chef certification and a minor in Small Business Management. Following his graduation, he became the proprietor of a dock installation company for approximately six years before relocating to NS, where he joined Wesley's Whale Watching as a tour guide.

Richard and his wife later acquired Wesley's Whale Watching, subsequently rebranding it as Cabot Trail Guaranteed Whale Adventures.
